With the mission of "Pursuing the truth and serving the people", the University inherits the outstanding tradition since its establishment and strives to cultivate talents needed by society and enterprises. Four core competencies: "Professional", "Interpersonal relationship", "Ethics", and " Global perspective" are expected for students completing their studies at NTPU. The University's educational goal is to cultivate high-quality modern citizens with both core competencies of cross-border professional and social care.

Following the mission and competencies identified by the University, the Department of Social Work developed its educational tenet as "People-centered, Caring for the disadvantaged, Whole-person development, and Social justice".

According to the mission, it is hoped that students of the Department will become social work professionals, supervisors, or managers in the public or private sectors, through the design and teaching of basic and advanced social work knowledge, theory, practice, and research. In the bachelor's degree programs, we adopt integrated teaching to enable students to become professional social workers. The master's degree program emphasizes advanced training in specialized fields to train postgraduate students to become supervisors and researchers. In addition to classroom teaching, NTPUSW emphasizes social work internships to train our students to become effective social workers.

Through teaching, research, and social services, we hope to contribute to social work education, the profession, and society. Regarding social work education, the Department attaches great importance to the close interactions between teachers and students to promote the development of students' potential and build up students' commitment to social work. In terms of social work profession, we focus on service and cooperation with practical professionals through supervision, consultation, research, and internship to bring a better combination of theories and practices. In terms of society, we emphasize social practice and advocacy to promote the improvement of social problems and bring up positive social changes.
